Morrama to host 'From the Ground Up' exhibition at London Design Festival 2025
We're excited to announce "From the Ground Up," an immersive exhibition at the London Design Festival, running from September 16th to 20th, 2025. The exhibition aims to reframe industrial design from an extractive practice to a regenerative one, drawing inspiration from natural processes and a revised relationship with materials.
The central premise of "From the Ground Up" highlights that 80% of a product's environmental impact is determined at the design stage. The exhibition advocates for a shift towards responsible, regenerative production by demonstrating that circular design is currently feasible through the use of materials that can be reintegrated into natural cycles.The five-day event will feature five material innovation projects from the Morrama Lab and its partners, each demonstrating product design with a complete lifecycle in mind, from inception to natural degradation.
Featured Partner Projects:
- Carbon Cell x Morrama Lab: Explores the application of carbon-negative, compostable expanded foam derived from biochar in everyday products.
- Earthmade x Morrama Lab: Investigates the deliberate design of products with finite lifespans, aligning material durability in tech products with internal component lifecycles.
- Batch.Works x Kibu: Focuses on utilizing waste materials to achieve colors and finishes, eliminating the need for artificial additives.
- Shellworks x Wild: Addresses the plastic crisis by showcasing packaging designed for natural disappearance.
- Thermofibre x Eco-flo: Examines the transition from petrochemicals to plant-based materials in the medical industry to reduce incineration waste and achieve carbon-negative solutions.
The exhibition's opening party on Tuesday, September 16th, will coincide with the launch of Morrama's debut book, From People to Planet: Lessons from a Design Agency, authored by founder Jo Barnard. The book compiles insights and narratives from a decade of purpose-driven design.
